Always check your tools to see if they are clean and sharp, if not clean and sharp with a steel wool and a wedge shaped sharpening stone.

Health and Safety:

safety equipent:

• keep an updated first aid kit on sight.

• steel cap boots.

• eye glasses.

• earmuffs.

• handgloves.

• chaps(if using motorised trimmer).

Safety precautions:

• watch where you are cutting.

• look out for your work mates while using sharp tools.

• dont play practical jokes.

• where chaps when using motorised trimmer.

• do not use motorised trimmer over your head.

• install safety barriers on your scaffolding.

• level your scaffolding when moving it around.

Set up scaffolding:

• use scaffolding from Hirepool (Hirepool scaffolding has been approved by NZ safety standards).

• read instructiions to setup your scaffolding.

• setup scaffolding on a level surface.

Prunning:

• prune conifer hedges in winter or early spring.

• look at your hedge, to get an idea on what you a going to prune.

• make a plan in your mind on how and where you are going start prunning.

• use ‘A frames’ on both ends with string lines attached, to get a straight line so you can cut a straight hedge.

• place tarpaulin down near hedge to put all clippings in, reducing double handling of green wastes.

• place scaffolding near hedge.

• start prunning from the top of the hedge.

• always stop to have a look at what you have done.

Once you have finished prunning, clean up the area and your tools.  Return all tools that you hired from hirepool before 5pm.
